OSF thanks Principal Kimi Kean for her inspiring participation in February's 2nd Annual Principal Fishbowl. She was quoted in an Education Report blog posting about the event: “We invite you to embrace our kids the way you embrace your own kids at home."

ACORN Woodland is a member of OSF's Family Engagement and Leadership Initiative and a member of its After-School Collaborative Program.

Support ACORN Woodland!
For many of our students, field trips are the first opportunity they have to travel outside Oakland, and the hands-on learning goes beyond what is possible inside the classroom. As teacher David Norris said about his 4th-graders' trip to Gold Rush country: "This is one of those experiences they'll remember for the rest of their lives."

Sadly, invaluable field trips like this fall outside our ever-tightening public school budget. To offer this golden opportunity again this year -- along with other trips, like our 3rd-graders' visit to the Monterey Aquarium -- we must appeal to the wider community for donations. Please consider a tax-deductible donation!

  • $150 pays for one 5th-grader to take part in the five-day Mosaic Project, an outdoor school in Napa.

  • $200 sends one 4th-grader on the two-night trip to Gold Rush country.

ACORN Woodland in the News!

Preparing young scholars to branch out and achieve higher education.

Science Integration
Students investigate the physical and natural world though engaging, hands-on science instruction provided by our full-time, master science teacher. All teachers integrate science across the curriculum though Project GLAD.

Performing and Visual Arts
Students access the arts on a daily basis though our partnership with MOCHA, African Roots of Jazz, Oakland Youth Chorus, and ArtEsteem. As an Arts Anchor Demonstration School, we prioritize the arts as an integral part of the curriculum.

University Partnership
Every ACORN Woodland classroom partners with a university to increase college awareness. Our goal is that every young scholar leaves with the skills and determination to pursue a university education.

Character and Leadership
At ACORN Woodland Elementary, academic rigor is complimented by a focus on the whole child. Our 7 core values - scholarship, integrity, compassion, dignity, communication, leadership and reflection - guide our character and leadership education. Additional leadership opportunities include Jr. Coach and Student Leadership Team.

Innovative Campus
Our state of the art campus integrates striking architecture, with many natural green areas and art studios. The site includes a dedicated Science Lab, Dance Studio, Music classroom, Family Resource Center, large recreation field, garden, and outdoor science area.

Extended Learning Program
Students extend the learning of the school day with a multifaceted extended learning program featuring Sports 4 Kids, chorus, dance, percussion, Science Explorers Club, Spirit Squad, mentorship, field trips, and performances. Academic Support and Homework Club take place daily.

Family Partnership
Families are integral to ACORN Woodland Elementary. We emphasize families as partners in learning though Home Visits and Student Work Exhibitions. Families take leadership though Governance Board, Family Academic Board, PTA, and Advisory Boards. Every family contributes 4 hours of volunteer service monthly.
