Our vision
At East Oakland PRIDE Elementary...
We are PROUD! of our cultures, community and education.
We are RESPECTFUL! of ourselves and others.
We are INTELLIGENT! in our personal and academic choices.
We are DETERMINED! to set and reach goals for ourselves.
We are EMPOWERED! to make a difference in our community!
Our Mission
At East Oakland PRIDE, we believe that intelligence is developed, nurtured, and learned. Our school is a place where students will be explicitly taught skills and intelligent habits and behaviors and are given opportunities to ponder, explore, and analyze in wide variety of contexts. All adults are child developers and are part of a learning community, working in concert to help students fulfill their vision of PRIDE.
School Demographics
In the fall of 2007, East Oakland PRIDE Elementary School began its first year as a new school on the Webster campus, serving K-3 students. We added fourth grade for the 2008-09 school year. In the fall of 2009 we added two fifth grade classes, bringing us to our full size.
The community that we serve in East Oakland PRIDE is quite diverse, with 65 percent of our students being Latino, 30 percent African-American, 3 percent Pacific Islander, 1 percent Filipino, and 1 percent White. Our community has experienced much change over the last ten years, with the African-American population slowly declining and a matching increase in our Latino population. Within the school, 88 percent of the East Oakland PRIDE students qualify for free and reduced-price lunch.
