Vision Statement
At Esperanza Elementary, our students graduate with confidence in their leadership and are academically prepared to succeed in any environment. They are unique individuals who aspire toward successful futures. Our students are academically strong in two languages. They respect themselves and their community. They think critically about their environment and are determined to create social change.
About Esperanza
Esperanza is a dual language school within the Oakland Unified School District. Students are instructed 50% in Spanish and 50% in English. The goals are to develop students as fluent speakers, readers, and writers of both English and Spanish. The classrooms are integrated though language, allowing students rich opportunities to use both languages.
Esperanza’s program is consistent with research that finds immersion programs, like Esperanza, beneficial to the development of English and Spanish literacy for all students. Students in similar programs have done as well or better than students not in immersion programs in the learning of language, as well as in other content areas. Students enrolled will learn English and Spanish through academics.
Esperanza provides thematic instruction, intervention, reading specialists, and strong parent engagement. Please consider donating now to help us continue our vision and build on our successes.
