Far West is a small school of 220 students, ages 13 to 18, located at the split of Broadway and College Avenues. The school collaborates with its neighbor, the California College of the Arts, to provide visual art experience connected to standards-based learning. The Far West staff work with artists and college students to provide Far West students with experiences in jazz, spoken word, video, drama, dance, choir, hip hop, and social justice/service learning projects. Far West is a college going campus. Many Far West students go on to pursue higher academic learning after their transition to adult life.

Students who do well at Far West are self-starters who desire to do well in all aspects of school and who have practiced visual or performing arts. We are looking for students who are interested in collaborating with the staff to enrich the school's art program.

The academic program is designed to help students become:

Critical Thinkers:

- Have personal vision
- Are self-directed
- Demonstrated passion and enthusiasm

Positive Member of Our Community:
- Exhibit personal responsibility
- Appreciate differences
- Contribute to the community
- Are empowered to name injustices
