A school champion is a key volunteer or person who has a deep interest in your school and your school’s success. Below are some ideas of how you can utilize your school champions for the best results for your school.
Have your champions write mini-grants on behalf of teachers and your school (i.e. post on Donor’s Choose or write Marcus Foster mini-grants).
Have them share your school’s recent newsletter with friends and family – Develop giving circles!
Have them call a few friends to tell them about your school (or ask them to mention you in conversation) and ask them to match their donation – Again developing giving circles!
Have them host a house party where they invite their friends over for appetizers and you get a chance to talk with them about your school and the great things you are doing.
Have them bring a few friends or colleagues to your school for a school site visit.
Have them give you a couple of names, organizations, or local businesses to add to your school’s mailing list. If possible, have them write personalized notes on the mailings before they go out and/or do follow-up with these people after the mailing.
Utilize their expertise! For example, if they work in IT ask them to set up your new computers, use their connections for in-kind donations, or have them lead a professional development on technology.
